Seminole, where the future is now.
Seminole Independent School
District is committed to excellence in every area, developing the
best in each student and staff member, maintaining a top-notch
physical plant, and preparing its charges for success in life.
As is the case in most
communities, the school system is the hub of activities. when a need
is identified, Seminole ISD seeks to fill it in the most efficient
and effective manner possible.
Academically, the district's
campuses consistently score "exemplary" or "recognized," the two
highest rankings available from the Texas Education Agency. Seminole
ISD has achieved state-level success in virtually every area of
school life: UIL Academics, Speech and Debate, One-Act-Play, Band,
Choir, Journalism, Industrial and Vocational Sciences, Agricultural
Sciences, Career and Technology and Athletics. The staff of
Seminole ISD is dedicated to providing a personalized educational
plan for every student.
Musically, the high school's
band and choir consistently win sweepstakes trophies and place
students in honor groups across the state and nation. In 1984 they
won the Texas State Solo and Ensemble Competition overall music
championship. The men's A Cappella Choir in 1997 and the Mixed A
Cappella Choir in 1999 were named TMEA honor choirs and performed at
the state convention in San Antonio.
Athletically, SHS has won six
state championships in three team sports. Girls volleyball teams
have won championships in 1971, 1977 and 1978; boy's basketball
teams have won state championships in 1955 and 1979; and in 1948
boys track won the state title. SHS athletes have also won state
medallist honors in tennis and power lifting.
Seminole students and teachers
have been recognized on the state and national level in a variety of
competitions. both special education and gifted & talented programs
exist at all levels to educate students at their individual learning
rate.
The school works to educate
more than its students. A program works with parents of
special-needs children from birth to age three, and the Adult
Education Center offers education classes in English, Spanish and
German to help post school-age dropouts complete their
education. Additionally, the district is helping staff members
attend college to receive their teacher certification or graduate
degree.
Voters on May 12, 2007 passed a
$110 million bond election to improve facilities and maintain
equipment. This faith in the school system ensures that excellence
and a quality education will remain important as Seminole ISD
prepares to enter its second century of service to the citizens of
Seminole and Gaines County.
